The Sports Turf Research Institute - About STRI

Chief Executive

Dr. Gordon McKillop BSc (Hons), PhD, MBA

Gordon was appointed CEO in 2000 and in this capacity works on a wide range of issues covering all aspects of the STRI’s advisory and research services.

He began his career in ADAS as an advisory entomologist and then moved on to undertake research into wildlife behaviour, ecology and management, ultimately as part of the Central Science Laboratory at York. He has a PhD from Reading University in applied zoology and a Masters degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Henley Management College. His final role within CSL was as a business development manager, using the skills obtained from his MBA, to bring in non-governmental funding into that organisation.

His main role is developing the strategic direction of the business. This means matching the resources of the STRI to its changing environment and in particular to its markets and clients so as to meet the expectations of staff and others associated with us. It means developing new services and markets and strengthening existing markets and services so that STRI can take advantage of the opportunities for development  and growth in the 21st Century.

He is a keen observer of all sports and a participant of a few. He plays tennis and represented Glasgow schools at badminton in the distant past although more recently has won veterans’ tournaments in Harrogate where he lives.

Contact Gordon if you are a new customer to STRI or would like to visit STRI's facilities.
