Ruth manages the Turfgrass Protection Department at STRI. Ruth's main roles include managing the STRI pesticide evaluation service. To do this the STRI is officially recognised by the Chemicals Regulation Directorate as a testing site for Plant Protection Products. Further to this testing work, Ruth can write Biological Assessment Dossiers for product approval. Ruth manages all other research on pests, weeds, diseases and associated disorders, pesticide application and use. Ruth provides onsite advice and can develop bespoke pest, weed or disease management plans detailing all possible aspects of control. Further to this, Ruth provides an identification service for pests, weeds and diseases on natural turf. She also maintains a culture collection of the main turfgrass pathogens with the aim of being able to manipulate and infect turfgrass trials with these cultures. |
Relevant ExperienceRuth has extensive research experience, which includes the pathogens that affect a wide range of plants including cereals, potatoes, oil seed rape and grasses. Management plans have been developed for many Golf Courses including Colne Golf Club and Kingsbarns Golf Club Before joining the STRI in 2001 Ruth worked for The Plant Testing Station in Northern Ireland testing forage grasses for value of cultivation and use and carrying out research into the digestibility of early, intermediate and late maturing perennial ryegrass varieties.
