Architectural Assessment

“Golf courses need to evolve in line with a policy document which is specific to the club”.

Architectural changes should be undertaken with professional advice rather than being influenced by transient Green Committees. 

STRI’s philosophy of golf architecture is driven by a sympathetic approach, which preserves the essential integrity and character of the golf course while reconciling the modern demands of play and maintenance. 

The scope of services can be tailored to the Client’s requirements and can include the following:-

• Bunker survey, review of contribution and recommendations for removal, redesign or introduction. A design and construction template would also be provided appropriate to the golf course
• Upgrading of teeing grounds, with advice on additional provision, positioning and construction (incorporating detailed working drawings if they are required)
• Golf Course Master plan, covering all aspects of future development in a single document.
• Assessment of specific features e.g. ponds and lakes
• Landscape evaluation, with specific proposals on habitat enhancement for future management with emphasis on the golfing and landscape values of the site.

Green Reconstruction & Re-design 

“The quality of the greens is the benchmark by which the standard of the golf course is judged”.

Many greens have been successfully reconstructed under the direction of STRI - working closely alongside the golf club and contractor - adopting proven specifications and working methods.The services offered include:-

• Production of conceptual design proposals with supporting statements
• Preliminary topographic survey
• Production of detailed working drawings showing finished levels on existing together with proposed green design and associated surround features.
• Volumetric analysis of cut and fill requirements as part of the earthworks as well as quantities of materials.
• Drainage layout.

Safety

The potential for litigation and possibly enforced closure of holes in the worst case scenario, is a real threat to some golf courses.

In these situations STRI can conduct an impartial assessment to determine the options for mitigation. This process would involve a site specific review of risk and potential for internal changes to golf course layout, hole set-up and boundary protection.

Drainage Surveys

STRI construction and drainage specialists provide independent drainage surveys of established golf courses and cost effective solutions. Using proven techniques, specific problems can be identified and appopriate contract documentation produced-encompassing plans, detailed specifications, contract requirements and tender information. The commitment continues in the form of site monitoring and contract administration. Materials would also be routinely checked for suitability.

STRI Irrigation Services

Course redevelopment may impact on existing irrigation systems and under these circumstances STRI irrigation services can be called upon to provide advice on design and installation to optimise use of water resources.
